The
MONKLANDS Coarse Angling Club was formed in 1989 and was
closely associated with the development as a fishery of
the MONKLANDS Canal in Coatbridge. Led by the club and
with support from the MONKLANDS District Council, the canal
was cleared, pegged and stocked. The club grew quickly
to over 100 members due to great enthusiasm for the project
from local and not so local anglers.
The
fish stocked in the Canal still provide good sport at times
for pleasure anglers with carp taken mainly at dusk and
dawn. The water clarity and surface weed means that the
canal is rarely used for matches.
In
recent years interest in the club has focussed more on
match fishing and on venues away from the canal. We regularly fish matches
at Magiscroft, Broom, Orchill, Springwater and Loch Ken. We are
proud of our long track record of success as Scotlands
leading match angling club.
We
have won the Scottish League several times
and many of our members have had the honour of representing
Scotland at International level.
We
take our match fishing seriously but we don't take ourselves
too seriously, so the social side of the club is very
important to us and we often get together after matches
for a wee beverage. The day is discussed and the lessons
shared, good and bad. The session always turns into a
great laugh, often riotous, so be warned!
