Scottish
National - Loch Ken, 21st September 2008. See HERE for
details.
Club
member Eric Morriss wins the firt Ayrstrike qualifier at
Springwater Fishery, Ayr.
Club member Ewan Weed wins the second Ayrstrike qualifier held at Broom Fishery,
Annan.
Club member Mike Shaw sets a new 3 hour match record on Carlisle water Crofton
Lake. Mike landed 46lb 15oz of Bream, Skimmers, Carp, Tench
and Roach to pole fished Pellet.
The
second league match of the 2008 series was to be held at
Magiscroft Fishery, near Glasgow. The pools to be used
were the Main Loch and the Island Pond. The Main Loch is
well known to be a good Pellet Waggler water (despite being
very deep), whilst the Island Pond is known to be a good
draw for the
Carp/Pellet
anglers.
Once again the mighty Monklands All Stars were desperate to finish off the bottom,
whilst the A team were hoping to open up a gap at the top
of the league.
The Monklands teams for this round were:
Monklands A
Ian Whitson
Darrin Ferguson
Stephen McAveny
Ewan Weed
Monklands B
Davie McAuley
Simon Murray
Alec Napier
Dougie Garmoury
Monklands All Stars
Michael Neary
Mike Shaw
David Anderson
Bryan Hewitt
The match itself was hard for most, certainly on the Main Loch one Carp could
promote you from last in section to the top half of the
section. With the water very clear and the small fish not
wanting to feed most anglers struggled - apart from a couple
of pegs where the Carp seemed to be shoaled up and an odd
peg on the Island Pond. Never the less, the match was enjoyable
and rewarded the adaptable anglers.
Individually it was Monklands Stephen McCaveny who lead the way with a super
catch of mainly Carp from the Island Pond:
Teamwise it was Monklands A that showed there class by opening up a 17 point
lead at the top of the table, Monklands B finished 5th
whilst the might All Stars finished in 11th.

My Match (Mike)
Just a few words about how I fished (or didn't fish!)my peg.
Not really knowing whether I 'd drawn well or not I approached the peg as if
I was literally fishing for a bite. I setup two waggler
rods, one with a conventional waggler and one with Pellet
Waggler - both were setup to catch Carp but gave the option
of switching to gauge the response.
In addition to these, I setup a deck rig at 6 sections for fishing worm/pellet,
a paste rig for the same line later in the match and an
up in the water rig for 14m.
At the hooter I started feeding my pole lines whilst Mark on the peg to my left
started on the Pellet Wag and was into a Carp straight
away. Once I'd fed the pole lines I went straight out on
the Pellet Waggler, feeding 6mm pellets and fishing the
same on the hair rig i promptly hooked two and both came
off, one returning a scale indicating they were foul hookers.
Mark on the other hand was catching Carp after Carp whilst all I could do was
try to coax some Carp from him - this wasn't to be and
despite trying for most of the match I just could not catch
a Carp! In the end I managed to scrape some bits together
for the team and return some points but I still came last
in section whilst Mark next to me had 27lb of Carp. Those
Carp were like Bream, foul hook one and loose it and they
wouldn't come back.
