Club
member Eric Morriss wins the firt Ayrstrike qualifier at
Springwater Fishery, Ayr.
Club member Ewan Weed wins the second Ayrstrike qualifier held at Broom Fishery,
Annan.
Club member Mike Shaw sets a new 3 hour match record on Carlisle water Crofton
Lake. Mike landed 46lb 15oz of Bream, Skimmers, Carp, Tench
and Roach to pole fished Pellet.
The
third league match of the series was to be held at Broom
Fishery near Annan. The match was to be fished on the same
four ponds as the first round - Queensberry, Bruces
Acre, Square and the Canal.
Once again the mighty Monklands All Stars were desperate to finish off the bottom,
in fact the All Stars had a new objective - to catch and
overtake the mighty Monklands B team, the All Stars were
on fire and full of confidence, we were sure the B team
were running scared. The A team on the other hand were
hoping to increase the lead they had at the top of the
league.
The Monklands teams for this round were:
Monklands A
Ian Whitson
Darrin Ferguson
Stephen McAveny
Ewan Weed
Monklands B
Richie
Vernon (standing in for Davie McAuley)
Simon Murray
Alec Napier
Dougie Garmoury
Monklands All Stars
Michael Neary
Mike Shaw
David Anderson
Bryan Hewitt
Individually the match was won by Broom A's Mark Trueman (Mark is a Monklands
member who for some reason was fishing for Broom this year)
from
the
Queensberry
lake with a Carp net of 27lb.
Teamwise it was Magiscroft who took the spoils, winning with 51 points and gaining
4 points on Monklands A. This put Monklands A 13 points
clear at the top of the league and favourites to win
the league with only one match remaining.
Monklands All Stars fished a blinder and finished 7th with 38 points, 11 points
ahead of the B team. This put the All Stars 5 points
behind the B team with one match remaining.
Drawing permanent peg 70 on Bruces Acre was a decent draw, with the wind blowing
into my bank I was confident of a few bites. I had been
informed by a regular that the pegs weren't fishing very
well, but there should be bits to fish for if the Carp
didn't show.
With the wind blowing into the bank I decided to fish fairly close in, having
one line at 4 sections to the right and 4 sections to the
left, a third line would be 6 sections straight out in
front and a feeder line as a backup.
At the hooter I fed the right hand line with chopped worm and caster, the left
hand line with worm on its own, the longer line was fed
with Pellet. A quick look on the feeder resulted in a motionless
tip, after which I started on the right hand line catching
small Perch and then Roach. The rest of the match was spent
alternating all lines in the hope of catching a few Carp,
with one hour to go I started fishing Paste over the long
pellet line and had indications straight away - two Carp
in quick succession and I thought I'd empty it - wrong!
No more fish came my way, I ended up with 4lb odd and 4th
in the section, the top two in section coming from the
flier in the corner and and angler with a full bank to
himself.
